The Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), and Banco Santander, through its Santander Universities Global Division, and Fundación General CSIC (FGCSIC) today presented the results of the Proyectos Cero FGCSIC on Threatened Species. The event was attended by Emilio Lora-Tamayo, president of the CSIC, Emilio Botín, president of Banco Santander, and Miguel García Guerrero director of the Fundación General CSIC.
Describing the initiative, the president of the CSIC, Emilio Lora-Tamayo, highlighted that: "These projects, and the results they are achieving, are a clear example of the success of public private partnerships. Basic research applied to the environment, with the support of business, can enable leading-edge research protecting five endangered species, while at the same time raising public awareness of the importance of respect for nature."
Along the same lines, Emilio Botín said that these projects demonstrate "that it is possible for universities, research centres and government departments to work together. And when they do, the results can be extremely fruitful." He added that "at Banco Santander we share the Fundación General CSIC's ambition to become a catalyst of a necessary and growing public-private interaction in the Spanish research and development system."
In his talk, Miguel García Guerrero, director of the Fundación General CSIC, highlighted the Foundation's renewed focus on its role as an "agent in bringing together the CSIC with businesses and social partners, and facilitating collaborations between them to foster knowledge transfer and so benefit Spanish society," highlighting in particular the Foundation’s role in promoting public-private partnership initiatives such as these Proyectos Cero FGCSIC.
