Today, 27th October 2022, the first results-monitoring technical meeting of the Datos de Vida project was held in Madrid. The project is a collaboration between Fundación General del Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (FGCSIC) and Goya Global Holding (GGH). Both entities have been working on this public-private technological collaboration for the last six months. Promoted by the Foundation, the project aims to prolong the autonomous life of the senior population and promote healthy active ageing. Ramón Torrecillas, Managing Director of FGCSIC, and Sergio Vidal, CEO of GGH, agreed at the time on the development of cooperative projects in which the private part will invest more than eight million euros. Public contribution is also expected, due to the foreseeable significant impact on the sustainability and quality of the public health system.
Datos de Vida studies how the autonomous and active life of the elderly can be prolonged as much as possible in their aging process with the use of data directly obtained in a transparent and non-invasive way during their daily activity. Through the application of advanced technologies of architectural space sensing and artificial intelligence, this project aims to create a data space that respects the sovereignty, security and privacy of the elderly. The exploitation of this information will enable action to be taken on the senior population to maximize their vital autonomy and activity, and to maintain their health at optimal levels. This will contribute to making the public healthcare system more sustainable and provide it with greater quality, thus having an impact on society as a whole.
GGH has approached FGCSIC with the aim of transforming housing into the home that cares for you as part of its strategy to expand its senior living project, Forum/The Comm, thus participating in a citizen science experience. Its clients are mostly fully autonomous seniors to whom GGH wants to offer help to remain independent the longest possible. The company’s initial forecasts include the construction of 2,000 rental homes that would incorporate the technology developed. In the first phase, GGH is contributing close to one million euros to finance the concept tests that will make way for the pilot of the second phase. The purpose of this agreement is to incorporate a non-invasive and transparent sensorisation system for each dwelling, which will make it possible to detect early signs of frailty through the processing of the data obtained and to propose personalized interventions to delay the entry into dependence as much as possible.
Beyond its business application, Datos de Vida, as an initiative for the digitalization of healthcare services, will allow its gradual extrapolation to the rest of the population, facilitating the prevention of multiple pathologies, the remote care of chronic patients and the prolongation of an active and healthy life. In this sense, the project has generated great interest on the part of Dr. Leocadio Rodríguez Mañas and Dr. Pedro Abizanda Soler, widely recognized internationally in the field of geriatrics. Datos de Vida also directly involves María Dolores Puga González, from the Research Group on Ageing of the Institute of Economics, Geography and Demography (GIE-CSIC), and Luis Magdalena, from the Polytechnic University of Madrid, Vice-President of the Spanish Society for Artificial Intelligence and Vice-President for Technical Activities at the IEEE Computational Intelligence Society.
