As one of the key industries of Spanish economy, the agri-food sector has a high potential for technological and innovation development but has to face new challenges, such as those outlined by the European Union. These identify the need for a change in order to create growth that will improve sector competitiveness and sustainability for the agri-food industry, producing more with less, respecting natural resources, encouraging the economic activity in disadvantaged rural areas and improving the wellbeing of our society through food.
The research potential of the CSIC in the areas of Agronomy, Natural Resources and Food Science and Technology is unquestionable and, to a great extent, can undertake the challenges we face.
